Widely known as one of the leading chefs of Central Europe and awarded the title 2018 Austrian Chef of the Year, the French-born Alain Weissgerber sees it as his mission to open people’s eyes to the richness of Austrian or more specifically Pannonian cuisine.
Alain Weissgerber together with his wife Barbara Eselbock owns the family restaurant, hotel and greisslerei (bistro) Relais & Chateaux TAUBENKOBEL. In the last Michelin guide 2009 he was aerate 2* Michelin as owns 19/20 points in Gault Millau's guide. Taubenkobel kitchen is based on the Pannonian gastronomic heritage, and are widely known for its original concept and legendary pop-up versions.
He is very passionate about foraging. In one of his interviews he told that since the foundation of Taubenkobel in the early 80s, they have been working with local Pannonian products, putting emphasis on knowing producers personally. Fish for their restaurant comes from the nearby Lake Neusiedl, herbs and fruits from their own garden. The meat is also local from farmers from Seewinkel (another side of Lake Neusiedl), mushrooms from Leithagebirge and the foothills of the Vienna woods.
